Initially, many parents and family members of the over 120 people Strathmore House supports were, too. Their children had aged out of Hampton Roads’ special education system, and were ready for adult services and support. Many worried that cognitive limitations, medical challenges, behavioral issues, or other conditions, such as autism, would make it impossible for their loved ones to live safely in their own apartments.

She has a scholarship and is attending Metro State University of Denver where she is working toward an RN degree. She lives downtown with her son and works part-time while attending college full-time. We offer FREE self-sufficiency programming to parenting teen moms. Strathmore House Colorado empowers parenting teenage moms to strive for personal and economic self-sufficiency and to understand their significance in God’s sight, resulting in a healthy future for them and for their children. We are a 90-day shelter program dedicated to supporting families, couples, and single women experiencing homelessness in Manitowoc County.

Strathmore House Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, provides services to adults with developmental disabilities exclusively in their own homes or apartments — regardless of how complex their disabilities may be.

However, not only did Vanessa grow up in generational poverty, she also grew up in an environment that did not trust the police force and actually hated police officers. Men, women and families come to us from the street, from camps and cars and find a hand up to help them get back on their feet. Representation to address the broad range of civil legal issues encountered by survivors such as protection orders, child support, child custody, divorce, paternity, etc.

She has been living in the same duplex for two years, which is longer than she has lived anywhere in her life. Brittani and her boyfriend are working on their credit score so they can buy a house. Brittani named her baby girl Deavyne and set out to create a different life for her daughter than she had known growing up. One of her friends told her about Strathmore House, where she earned her GED so she could go on to college. She also met with her Strathmore House mentor regularly and took Parenting classes at Strathmore House. “Strathmore House helped me a lot. I was scared. Strathmore House helped me by teaching me about responsibility, budgeting, structure and spending time with my son.”

She attended the GED graduation in May 2022 and gave the graduation speech. Janely, Alejandra’s 9-month-old-daughter, Strathmore House Review is also enrolled in the Early Learning Program. At first, Alejandra said, “I was hesitant because of bad experiences I had with babysitters for Janely, but I got to meet the staff and they’re really nice and I’m never far away from Janely which is really great”. Alejandra has also taken other classes including Parenting 101, Relationship Classes, and Self-Care classes. Stephanie’s last requirement was to find full-time employment. With support from our College & Career Program, she found a customer service position at PC’s for People, a non-profit organization that provides computers to low-income individuals (I love seeing the process come full circle in her life!).

Stephanie grew up in generational poverty, became a mom as a teenager and dropped out of school. She was sleeping with her baby girl on a couch in a crowded mobile home. The mission of Preble Street is to provide accessible barrier-free services to empower people experiencing problems with homelessness, housing, hunger, and poverty, and to advocate for solutions to these problems. Established in 1990 out of the need for homeless services for women and children, Strathmore House serves over 5000 homeless and impoverished individuals and families in Hancock County each year. In addition, Strathmore House serves as the Front Door for rental housing assistance in Hancock County. She feels safe and is excited to provide an environment for Julian that is supportive and caring, two things she longed for as a child.

The Salvation Army Medford provides transitional living for those facing homelessness. Individual and group counseling, support groups, and family therapy for adult and child survivors. Following best practices, Strathmore House does not offer counseling with the abusive individual. Onsite or scattered site housing, rent and/or utility subsidies, housing-specific case management, resource referrals, and employment guidance for six to 24 months. We are a 90-day program providing shelter, overnight accommodations, supportive listening, job search assistance, basic budget counseling, and more.

She felt shamed and scared, and she was struggling with preeclampsia and migraines as she got closer to her due date. Eventually, Alejandra got connected to Strathmore House through clinic staff at the office where she went to get ultrasounds. At first, she was nervous about what her family would say, but in January of 2022, Alejandra became a Strathmore House Mom and has loved it ever since. On a daily basis, we are changing people’s lives, restoring families, and providing hope. Since 1996, The Salvation Army’s Strathmore House in Medford has helped Jackson County’s homeless get back on their feet.

Domestic violence can happen to anyone, no matter their gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexuality. Strathmore House advocates for survivors, no matter where they are in their journey. A secure, off-site facility where custodial parents safely exchange custody of their children and/or children participate in supervised visits with their non-custodial parent. Targeted assistance and case management for adult survivors with Family Court and/or Children’s Division involvement. Assistance in thirteen area courts including order of protection court, as well as lethality assessment programs with nine area municipal police departments.

We believe recovery starts from within, and that our job is to do whatever it takes to provide the support needed on your recovery journey. Fatima heard about Strathmore House through a friend of a friend, and after having joined the program, she quickly began working on her high school equivalency through Penn Foster. She also applied to and was accepted into the Residential Program. Fatima and Julian moved into the house and started making friends with other moms and staff. A residential staff member had a huge influence on her and became like a grandmother to her, something Fatima never had.
